Airport Master Plan, ALP update, Environment Assessment, land acquisition, and complete design for a new 5,000 foot x 75 foot wide primary runway, rehabilitation of an existing 3,800 foot runway, airfield lighting, apron, GPS surveys, and 2 miles of new county road construction. This project involved the acquisition of eight parcels of land needed to accommodate a new 5,000-foot runway.

Choteau Airport received an award from the FAA with the following inscription: "For dedication and perseverance in converting the existing substandard facility into a safe and efficient new airport that will serve the community well into the future." FAA Northwest Mountain Region Airports Conference, April 15-17, 2002.

Complete Design of New Runway

Stelling Engineers was responsible for the complete design for a new 5,000' x 75-foot wide primary runway for the Choteau Airport. The Airport’s Master Plan recommended the complete reconstruction of the Airport. Included was an ALP update, Environment Assessment, and rehabilitation of an existing 3,800' runway, including airfield lighting, apron, GPS surveys, and 2 miles of new county road construction.

This project also involved the acquisition of land parcels needed to accommodate the new 5,000' runway: three tracts was necessary to allow for the expansion of Runway 14-32 to the north; four easements were acquired to protect the approach onto Runway 32 and Runway 5-23; and two tracts were necessary to allow for the construction of a new refuse access road.

Wildlife Fence

Stelling Engineers administered the construction of 22,000 L.F. of 8-foot high perimeter wildlife fence around the Airport perimeter. The project included all excavation, embankment, grading, surveying, compaction, topsoiling, clearing and grubbing, seeding, access gates, object markers, signs, and erosion control required to construct the fence.
