Sweetgrass Rest Area - 2000

Stelling Engineers provided site survey, lighting, utilities, paving, landscape design, inspections, contractor meetings, clarifications, and architectural, structural, and civil shop drawing review along with technical support to MDT in the design and construction of a new prototype safety rest area on the Canadian border for the Interstate System. Special features include structural wall design, geometric design within interstate off ramp, and water and sewer connections.

In 2002, the Montana Contractor’s Association, Inc. Concrete Division presented Stelling Engineers an award for first prize in the New and Innovative Category. This award was in recognition of the structural wall systems designed by Stelling Engineers for the MDT Sweetgrass Rest Area.

Lost Trail Pass Rest Area

Stelling Engineers prepared the plans, specifications, and estimates for the construction of the new Lost Trail Pass Safety Rest Area. The project included a water supply system, power (generator) system, septic drainfield, geometrics, signing, surveys, pedestrian access, and pavement design. The project had several issues to overcome including damage to pavement due to frost, the suitability of spring water, reliable and dependable power, and preservation of existing vegetation for landscaping. These issues were solved providing a successfully completed project.

Mosby (Winnett) Rest Area - 2004

Stelling Engineers performed a conceptual study for three alternative rest area sites and follow-up design for the recommended site. Services included right-if-way plans for 3 parcels. Design included the development of a 1,500-foot public supply water well, widening of Highway 200, integrated the roadway design with parking, drainfield design, pump station, grading, and rest area building.
